Stainless Steel 347 is a modified version of the standard 18/8 Grade 304 austenitic stainless steel, distinguished by the addition of Columbium. This addition serves to stabilize the steel, preventing carbide precipitation and subsequent intergranular corrosion. Notably, Stainless Steel 347 exhibits exceptional formability, weldability, and toughness, even at cryogenic temperatures.
Alloy 347 is characterized by its stability, owing to the presence of chromium and tantalum, which eliminate carbide precipitation and intergranular corrosion. Offering superior creep and stress rupture properties compared to alloys 304 and 304L, Stainless Steel 347 is an ideal choice for applications where sensitization and intergranular corrosion are concerns. Moreover, the addition of columbium enhances corrosion resistance, surpassing even that of alloy 347. For applications requiring higher carbon content, Alloy 347H provides improved high-temperature and creep properties.
